Abstract
PURPOSE: To inhibit the accumulation of carbon on the catalytic surface and prevent the deterioration of the catalytic activity, by using a carrier having a small surface area obtained by calcining at a high temperature as a carrier for a metallic sulfate catalyst in decomposing an alkyl tertiary alkyl ether into a tertiary olefin.
CONSTITUTION: An alkyl tertiary alkyl ether, e.g. methyl tertiary butyl ether, is decomposed to give a tertiary olefin. In the process, a carrier obtained by calcining at a high temperature, e.g. 500W2,500°C, and having a specific surface area ≤20m2/g, e.g. alumina, silica, or silicon carbide, is used as a carrier for supporting a metallic sulfate catalyst. The prolonged catalytic life lengthens the regeneration or changing interval of the catalyst, and this method has a very great industrial significance.
