Abstract
PURPOSE:To measure the remaining capacity of the battery always accurately, by measuring the no-load voltage after the discharge of the battery has finished and before the no-load voltage of the battery becomes a steady state value. CONSTITUTION:The Figue shows the relationship between the no-load voltage at a time 5min after the discharge of lead storage battery has finished and the amount of discharge. The curves are plotted for the cases where the rated capacity of the lead storage battery is 312Ah/5HR, the temperature of the electrolyte is 30 deg.C or 20 deg.C, the specific gravity of the electrolyte is 1,280/30 deg.C or 1,300/20 deg.C, and the discharged rate is 5HR or 3HR. As shown in the Figure, the voltages are about the same for practical purpose. Even though the rated capacity is changed, about the same characteristic is shown. Therefore, by measuring the no-load voltage, the amount of discharge can be found without using the temperature of the electrolyte, the specific gravity of the electrolyte, the discharge rate, the capacity, degree of degradation, and the like of the battery. Thus the remaining capacity of the battery can be accurately measured.
