Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable scanning length to be controlled automatically by controlling the optical scanning length of a moving optical scanning part in correspondence to the size signal from an original size detecting part by said size signal. CONSTITUTION:For example, when a B5-size original O1 is placed on a paper feed platen 2b by aligning its one side edge to the reference plate 2a of an original supplying part 2 and is fed by a supplying roller pair 2c, the original O1 passes through the 1st sensor S1 and is conveyed in the direction of the arrow (a) by the endless conveying belt 3a of an automatic original feeding device 3. When the leading end of the original O1 reaches a detecting sensor S3, the conveyance of the original O1 is stopped, and the original O1 is positioned on an original table 5, thence a movable optical scanning part 6 scans optically the original O1 while moving by a half stroke in the direction of the arrow (b) based on the size signal from the 1st sensor S1. The optical image is projected to charged a photosensitive drum 1. The visible image obtained by known processes is transferred on the B5-size copying paper P1 supplied from a copying material supplying part 10 based on the size signal from the 1st sensor S1 and the image thereof is discharged after having been fixed.
