D.L. Bearden
D.L. Bearden is a North American and European-based educator with interests in e-learning, research methodology and cognotics. Prior to becoming an educator, he worked as a social service professional and as a journalist. He was center director at two rural community development centers where he built a network of health clinics, nutrition, job training and transportation programs. As a journalist he served as a reporter and as a managing editor at multiple newspapers.
He holds a PhD in P-12 School Administration from Capella University, a Master of Education in Educational Technology / Adult Education from the University of Phoenix, and a Bachelor in Rural Development from St. Edwards' University. His post graduate work is in Business and Finance. He was a certified teacher in several states and currently employed as adjunct instructor / consultant at several universities. He is currently certified as district administrator by the University of the State of New York and a secondary teacher by the Texas State Board of Educator Certification.
His experience and training in school leadership is based on service as a consultant on developmental issues for charter schools, cyberschools, virtual schools/ worlds, e-learning design, arts education, and educational technology. With 11 years classroom teaching experience in face to face P-12 education and 6 years teaching in K-12 cyberschools he can speak to the classroom practitioner as a veteran. With seven years’ experience as a school administrator including two as superintendent of a charter school he can address a variety of perspectives. For the last eight years he worked as an adjunct instructor in higher education teaching organizational leadership and research methodology to masters, and doctoral level learners. He currently serves as dissertation chair for doctoral learners at Grand Canyon University and at Laureate Global Services.
As the president of the non-profit corporation Executive Travis Rural Areas Inc. he secured funding for a tutoring program associated with Agricultural Extension Service and won funding for the renovation of the historic Community Welfare Association building in Austin.
He attended Center for Intercultural Documentation (CIDOC) in Cuernavaca Mexico established by Ivan Ilich who wrote Deschooling Society.
His focus is chairing dissertation committees. His expertise lies in qualitative methodology, but he chaired several successful quantitative studies and can provide equal support for any methodology choice based on many years of teaching both quantitative and qualitative courses.
His currently is president of the French association Académie St. John in Sophia Antipolis a technology park located in the Côte d'Azur.
