The sun disc was carved on talatat, on tomb walls, on domestic and boundary stelae of Akhetaten. Because of the ubiquity of the sun disc I analysed the specific scenes and sun disc itself together with its rays with regard to various aspects of research. On the basis of these analyses we can conclude that the number of the Aten’s rays depended on the amount of the free space that was available to Egyptian artists. In the reliefs showing temple façades or palaces we can see intentional symmetry of the deity’s images. The same can be witnessed when it comes to the few scenes where the Aten illuminates king’s cartouches. Probably there is an important reason why the disc irradiates the king’s and the queen’s cartouches with a different number of rays. The sun disc is very often crowned with a cobra which has an anx-sign on its neck. My analyses show that uraeus is more common than the Egyptian sign of life. The Aten illuminated the royal couple with the anx-symbol more often, a few times we can see him holding the sign of power wAs. The most interesting of the Aten’s attribute is a cobra with a sun disc on its head. The Aten often has twelve and nine rays which probably has something to do with Great Ennead from Heliopolis and the cycles of 12 hours and 12 hours during which the sun god in his barge traveled across the sky and the underworld. We must not look at the solar-disc of the god Aten as only a symbol or emblem because the sun-disc has a much deeper meaning and carries a complex theological message.
