Lee Fields: Flooded

As usual, the Lee Fields flooded so I went out for a scout around. My shoes are sopping but I got a few good shots! At least others had fun in the water!

Humour

Dealing with Mobiles

It’s in the humour category, but this thread is actually quite serious. Motorists talking on their phone are a serious threat to everyone around them. If I find a driver using his phone at the head of the queue waiting at the lights, I position my bike in front of their car and wait for the lights to go green. When the inevitable blasts on the horn start up after the lights phase, I get off my bike, lay it on the ground and walk over to ask the driver to hang up his call. Can also be combined with […]

Site Updates

Working away at a new site design. I also made a few changes to the WordPress MU index.php and added a counter. With that you can do nifty things like adding a photo of the day after the first post, or whatever. In my post.html I put the following: {if $count == ‘0’}     {photoblog msg=” randmsg=”} {/if} I really need somewhere to put my “pic of the day”. It’s annoying putting it in-between posts. More reworking of code later possibly. Anyway, after yet-another-aborted-attempt at another design for this site, I’m drooling over the designs at zengarden. Someone slap me!

Flooding in Cork

I survived the worst weather in 40 years. Driving through Cork City last night was a challenge. Roads were flooded, traffic was backed up, and while I was stuck on Mc Curtain St. for half an hour I saw that the Everyman Theatre is playing, “Singing in the Rain” right now. This morning the weather turned again, and the sun is shining, there’s a nice breeze and blue sky is visible through white clouds. No, I don’t have photos of the floods, I was inside, warm, enjoying dinner and good company! Some great pictures of the 2009 floods are on […]

iPod, uPod, we allPod

While Mark is rubbing his hands in glee playing with his new computer, Apple released the new iPod. At $600 the price’s a little steep and makes the iRiver H320’s $299 price tag look a lot more attractive. I can squirt photos on to both, and I doubt I’d be away from a PC long enough to fill the 20GB capacity of that device with images. Metafilter discussion here, along with some insightful comments and links. I mentioned the H320 before: 1 2 Bah. That U2 iPod is ugly. I am going to buy some sort of mp3 player soon […]

Justifications for shooting RAW

I don’t have any choice, my camera only shoots jpeg, but if you can, shooting raw is a good way to go to improve your photos! This article by Tommy covers some of the issues, although I find myself thinking things are “good enough” most of the time with jpeg.

WordPress

Templates and the "is" Functions

Ryan’s explanation of the is_* functions in WordPress 1.3 is an excellent summary of some of the new functions in this version of WP. In WPMU, it should be possible(I haven’t tried yet!) to do the following from your Smarty template: {if is_search()}     <b>The Results of Your Search:</b> {/if} It’ll display the message “The Results of Your Search:” when a search is performed on your site.
