Luke Perry’s daughter Sophie reacts to Shannen Doherty’s death after cancer battle

Shannen Doherty was remembered by Luke Perry’s daughter, Sophie Perry, after her death.

Sophie, 24, shared an Instagram tribute on Sunday to her late dad’s “Beverly Hills, 90210” on-screen love interest, who died of breast cancer on Saturday at age 53.

The photo shows Doherty and Luke dressed in fancy clothes. In it, Luke bites Doherty’s pearl necklace and Doherty has a big smile on her face.

Sophie added a white heart emoji to the post of the photo.

Doherty and Luke played love interests Brenda Walsh and Dylan McKay, respectively, on the beloved teen drama show, which aired on Fox from 1990 to 2000. The photo appears to be from the show’s infamous prom episode.

Luke died in March 2019 at the age of 52 after suffering a fatal stroke. He shared Sophie and son Jack, 27, with ex-wife Rachel Minnie Sharp, who he was married to from 1993 to 2003.

After Luke’s death, Sophie took to Instagram to thank fans for their support.

“A lot has happened in this past week for me. Everything is happening so fast,” she wrote in her post from March 5, 2019. “I made it back from Malawi just in time to be here with my family, And in the past 24 hours I have received an overwhelming amount of love and support.”

“I’m not really sure what to say or do in this situation, it’s something you aren’t ever given a lesson on how to handle, especially when it’s all happening in the public eye,” Sophie added. “So bear with me and know that I am grateful for all the love. Just, being grateful quietly.”

Doherty was similarly devastated over Luke’s death. She honored her former co-star by making a cameo appearance on his show “Riverdale.”

“I was crying. I was like, ‘Yes, of course I’ll be apart of this,’ ” she said in 2019 on Kelly Ripa’s talk show, “Live.” “It’s like his wish. It’s beautiful and very special.”

The “Charmed” alum also reminisced about Luke at a “Beverly Hills, 90210” panel at MegaCon Orlando this past February.

“It was shocking,” she said about his death. “I have a very visceral reaction whenever someone brings up Luke because as someone with cancer — and a really horrible cancer at Stage 4 — I thought I would be the first to go. So when it was Luke, it really just sent me for a tailspin.”

Doherty admitted that “there were moments” that her and Luke “were not so close” when they worked together on “Beverly Hills, 90210.”

“But later we became extremely close,” she added. “So to lose him as our relationship was just sort of flourishing as friends, and our respect and admiration for each other was coming to its fullest potential . . . it was just very hard.”

Doherty’s publicist, Leslie Sloane, confirmed the actress had died after she spent years battling cancer.

“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty,” Sloane said in a statement to People on Sunday.

“On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease,” Sloane continued. “The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.”

Doherty was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. She went into remission in 2017, but in 2020 she revealed she had terminal Stage 4 cancer.
