The 22-year-old Daniels defeated Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr., Oregon quarterback Bo Nix and Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. for college football’s most prestigious award, which was announced from New York City.

“This is a dream come true,” said Daniels, who became the first player since 2016 to win the Heisman as a member of a team that did not compete for a conference title.

During his acceptance speech, Daniels shouted out his teammates from both LSU and Arizona State, where he transferred from after the 2021 season.

“I want to thank all my teammates, from Arizona State to LSU,” he said. “You’re my brothers. You work so hard every day, inspiring me to be my best.”

Daniels threw for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns and four interceptions this season, in addition to rushing for 1,134 yards and 10 scores.

He received 503 first-place votes and 2,029 points for the Heisman Trophy.

Penix Jr. finished second in the voting, followed by Nix in third and Harrison Jr. in fourth.

Dunne, who is currently a senior at LSU, caught Daniels in action this season.

Back in October, Dunne had a front-row seat to the Tigers’ shutout win over the Army Black Knights.

In the 62-0 victory, Daniels went 11-for-15 with 279 yards and three touchdowns in the first half.

“Louisiana Saturday nights >,” Dunne posted on social media at the time.
