MLB

Lay off A-Rod, hypocrites!

This MLB witch hunt against Alex Rodriguez is so ridiculous even his detractors, such as myself, are now on his side. Why didn’t Bud Selig and his minions exert this type of effort to go after Mark “I’m not here to talk about my past” McGwire, Sammy “I don’t speak English” Sosa and Barry “Big Head” Bonds? Oh, right, Selig and his crew were making millions off them, plus none of those “cheaters” played for the Yankees. Rather foolish of me to expect a level playing field.

Blueshirt blues
Headhunting in the NHL must stop. There are more than enough concussions to go around on clean hits. There need not be additional concussions caused by minor league-caliber goons. One solution, although controversial, was voiced years ago by Phil Esposito when he reminded us that during the non-helmet era, there were fewer concussions — mostly because players were aware that a hit to an unprotected head was dangerous. Either get rid of the helmets, or enact much more serious penalties.

It seems every year the Rangers end up not having enough toughness or enough scoring. Tell me why Taylor Pyatt, Benoit Pouliot and Dominic Moore — and even Mats Zuccarello, who’s too small five-on-five — are still on this team. Jesper Fast should be getting ice time at Hartford. When J.T. Miller, Chris Kreider and maybe even Danny Kristo can help in the scoring department. And why is Rick Nash fighting someone else’s battle, then getting concussed with no response. Alain Vigneault should employ someone other than Derek Dorsett to stop other teams from targeting Nash, or we’re in for a long season.

Passionate Puig
All the critics of Yasiel Puig’s passionate baseball style should take a chill pill and ponder the timeless words of baseball immortal Roy Campanella: “You gotta be a man to play baseball for a living, but you gotta have a lot of little boy in you.” Puig is the little boy Campanella was talking about.
