Ex-Post editor Kalech dies

Marc Kalech, former managing editor of the New York Post, died yesterday of complications from a long-running battle with leukemia. He was 64.

Kalech, born and raised in New York, started at The Post as a copy boy in 1965 and worked his way up to reporter, night city editor and metropolitan editor before being named managing editor in 1993.

He said he was most proud of creating the weeping Alexander Hamilton front page on March 16, 1993, during the staff revolt against then-owner Abe Hirschfeld.

Survivors include his wife, WCBS-TV reporter Marcia Kramer, two stepchildren, Margot and Max Runes, and sister Joan Moverman.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Congregation Kneses Tifereth Israel, 575 King St., Port Chester, NY.
