Teufel named Mets’ Triple-A manager

Tim Teufel was named manager of the Mets’ Triple-A affiliate Buffalo Bisons yesterday.

The former Mets infielder was elevated from the same position with Double-A Binghamton, where he spent last season. Teufel began his managerial career with the Brooklyn Cyclones in 2003.

The 52-year-old replaces Ken Oberkfell, who will be manager Terry Collins’ bench coach with the Mets.

Teufel’s staff will include pitching coach Ricky Bones and hitting coach Mike Easler.

The Mets added two more arms to the bullpen, signing lefty Tim Byrdak and right-hander Blaine Boyer to minor-league deals with invitations to major league spring training.

The 37-year-old Byrdak went 2-2 with a 3.49 ERA in 64 games (pitching 38 2/3 innings) for Houston last year. He held left-handed hitters to a .213 average. He has pitched for the Royals, Tigers and Orioles and is another option to earn a bullpen role for the Mets, who lost left-handers Hisanori Takahashi and Pedro Feliciano to free agency this offseason.

Boyer, 29, pitched in 54 games for Arizona last year, going 3-2 with a 4.26 ERA.
