Left out by Obama

* As a secular progressive who was not taken in by President Obama in 2008, I totally agree with The Post (“O’s Excellent Betrayals,” Editorial, Aug. 12).

Obama has spat in the face of his progressive base. He reneged on his campaign promises to revoke “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and to prohibit religious institutions receiving federal money under the Faith-Based Initiative from engaging in discriminatory hiring practices.

He has expanded the violations of civil liberties under the Patriot Act and referred to God more times in his first year in office than George W. Bush did in his entire two terms.

The Democrats will pay a heavy price in November for this arrant disregard for a key part of their base.

* When Press Secretary Robert Gibbs states that liberals criticizing Obama should be drug-tested, he is taking the lead from his bosses.

Vice President Biden once called a citizen requesting tax cuts a “smart-ass,” and Obama regularly mocks his critics and the Tea Partiers.

Few things in this world are more frightening than leaders who openly mock their constituents. One of them is a mainstream press that ignores it.

* Gibbs came out swinging against Obama’s liberal friends, saying they might be in need of drug testing.

Can the wacky leftists who support this bunch really be angry because the man in the White House isn’t left-wing enough? He makes Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez seem like right-wingers. If he leans any further to the left, he’d fall out of his shoes.
