Winston churchill — or bust

When it comes to understanding the enemy and the needs of his own military, Winston Churchill stood out as one of history’s greatest “giants” (“A Test of Courage,” Lawrence Kadish, PostOpinion, July 31).

He had the wisdom and courage to stand up and prevail against overwhelming odds.

He exercised brilliant leadership without compromise, helping to save a nation that is one of America’s closest friends.

When President Obama rejected and returned the bust of Churchill given to the White House as a meaningful gift from the grateful Brits, it was a huge insult to our closest ally and to Churchill’s legacy.

If our country ever gets into serious trouble, we’re going to have to find our own Churchill.

Unfortunately, we certainly do not have one in the White House.

Lawrence Kadish writes how Churchill used his soaring oratorical power to restore hope and to rally and mobilize his citizens at a time when many gave up on democracy and the free world.

He understood democracy and tyranny.

It is sad and troubling that Obama, instead of learning from such a great leader, saw fit to remove and return a bust of Churchill to the British.

How symbolic is that?
