US vs. America

As everyone knows, Arizona is the target of a lawsuit from the US Justice Department over its controversial illegal-immigration law.  Last week, a federal judge blocked key parts of the law.

Well, Arizona isn’t the only state finding itself in a tussle with the federal government. The even-more controversial health care reform law finds all sorts of opposition at the state level:  In Missouri today, voters will have their say on Proposition C which asserts that the Missouri residents can’t be sanctioned for not accepting ObamaCare’s required individual mandate to have health insurance.

Meanwhile, in Virginia, state Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has filed suit over exactly the same question: The suit asserts that the federal government can’t compel individuals to purchase a specific item, e.g. a health insurance policy.

Oh, Cuccinelli also issued an opinion Monday asserting that Virginia cops had the authority to make immigration checks from anyone legally stopped or arrested. In essence, Cuccinelli has asserted that Virginia has asserted the same policy as Arizona’s blocked immigration law.

So, does the US want yet another fight on its hands?  Over to you, Attorney General Eric Holder.
