At a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing today Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) basically announced that comprehensive immigration reform was dead for this year and probably until 2012. “”It is impossible for me and any other serious Democrat to get this body to move forward until we prove to the American people we can secure our borders,” Mr. Graham declared to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, who was testifying.
Graham also made it clear after the hearing that if Hispanics pushed the Democratic Party to bring such a bill up for a vote that it wouldn’t get 40 votes.
