Dolphins taking second look at Taylor

While free-agent pass rusher Jason Taylor continues to mull the Jets’ two-year, $3.45 million offer, Gang Green’s interest might have woken up the Dolphins, Taylor’s longtime team.

Miami — which had been standoffish with Taylor until the Jets’ rabid pursuit — reportedly plans to have coach Tony Sparano meet with Taylor this week in hopes of convincing him to re-sign.

The Miami Herald, however, said a Taylor associate disputed that report by claiming the meeting was “news to him.”

With no offer sheets from other teams on the horizon for disgruntled running back Leon Washington going into Thursday’s leaguewide deadline for restricted free agents, the Jets are as curious as anyone to know what Washington is going to do.

“That would be a great question for him and his agent,” GM Mike Tannenbaum said yesterday.

Washington has yet to sign his tender offer from the Jets. He and all other restricted free agents must sign their tenders by June 15 or their current club can cut the offer to 110 percent of the player’s 2009 salary.

The Jets are headed back to SUNY Cortland for training camp this summer and through 2012 after the state made nearly $600,000 in improvements to the school’s practice facility.
