Plumbing his depths

“So what have we learned from [the Joe the Plumber] episode? 1. Thou shalt not offend The One by asking him a question. Of any kind. 2. Anyone who questions The One will have to undergo a public pillorying of a kind unseen since the Red Scare, or perhaps the Inquisition. 3. The Media will happily participate in any inquisition, as long as it keeps them from investigating irrelevant issues like Obama’s ties to the Chicago Machine, William Ayers, ACORN, or his record on protecting infanticide.”

Conservative Renaissance

“Anticipating John McCain‘s defeat (which I am not yet ready to concede), many, particularly on the left, contend that the conservative movement will finally come to an end. What these doomsayers miss is that, in many ways, the conservative movement is now stronger than it ever was. Rush Limbaugh, his radio show amplified by his web presence, is now joined on the air by countless other thoughtful conservatives. It’s not just blogs and talk radio. In the debate on the financial sector bailout, the Republican minority and not the party in power was the source of new ideas. If McCain loses, conservatives may be out of power (heck, I’ve argued we haven’t had a conservative president at least since 2006), but we will not be out of ideas.”

UN-believable

“Kosovo is the fourth country I’ve visited where the UN has or has had a key role, and in only one of them – Lebanon – is the UN not despised by just about everyone. In Bosnia UN “peacekeepers” stood by impotently while ethnic-cleansing campaigns were carried out right in front of them. The UN’s Oil for Food program was thoroughly corrupted by Saddam Hussein. In Kosovo, the elected government is still subordinate to the almost universally despised UN bureaucrats.”
