ALL’S FAIR IN THE CITY

Like Britney, be country, y’all

Galapagos Art Space

70 N. Sixth St., Williamsburg, Brooklyn; 212) 868-4444

There’s more than a bit of kitsch to New York City’s cowboy scene (read: the new electronic bull in Rockefeller Center and the half-naked buckaroo who sings in Times Square). Luckily, there’s a healthy dose of gen-you-wine country, and nowhere is it better enjoyed than Galapagos Art Space in Williamsburg, which hosts today’s Brooklyn County Fair. There’s no charge to see acts including Uncle Monk, the Defibulators and JD and the WWJD’s from 1 to 7 p.m. and barbecue and grits from Smoke Joint will be available on the cheap.

No Mo’

Mo Pitkin’s House of Satisfaction

34 Avenue A; (212) 777-5660, mopitkins.com

When Mo Pitkin’s House of Satisfaction opened its doors two years ago, critics said there was no way such a capacious, multifaceted, bilevel hangout dedicated to live music, comedy, poetry readings and burlesque could survive in the modern-day East Village. Sadly, they were right. That said, Mo’s isn’t going down without a farewell party, which begins at 8 tonight and runs as long as it runs. (What has it got to lose?) Seth Herzog hosts the grand finale, where Moby, Jessica Delfino and many, many more special guests are expected to bid adieu. And wouldn’t you know it? Entry is free.

New and improv-ed

Manhattan Center, 311 W. 34th St.; (212) 695-6600

New Yorker Hotel, 481 Eighth Ave.; (212) 971-0101

PLANNING to attend Jazz Improv Live! may seem antithetical. But considering the event spans four days and nights, and includes 100 performances and 80 panels and workshops, making it up as you go might result in missing out. Go to jazzimprov.com for tickets and times.

Shins happen

Terminal 5, 610 W. 56th St.

It’s hard to say what’s more popular right now: indie rock darlings the Shins or Terminal 5, the brand-new Midtown venue that hosts them Tuesday and Wednesday night. Doors are at 7 p.m., tickets are $39.50 at (212) 260-4700 or ticketmaster.com.

See ‘Saw’

City theaters

Jigsaw is back for another round of hair-raising suspense in “Saw IV.” Thanks to an effective mélange of psychological twists and bloody torture scenes, this fast-paced cat- and-mouse series has enjoyed the rare combination of cult devotion and mainstream acceptance. Repeating the synergy from “Saw II” and “Saw III,” Tobin Bell stars and Darren Lynn Bousman directs.
