BABY ABANDONED IN BROOKLYN

A 3-week-old girl was found abandoned early yesterday in a plastic shopping bag hanging on a Brooklyn fence.

At 3:50 a.m., Calvin Jackson walked from his apartment on Hull Street in Bushwick to a grocery store and saw the bag.

“I lifted the blankets, and inside the bag was the baby,” Jackson said. “I took it out and I held it, but I didn’t know what to do.”

So he took the child back to the grocery store and asked a clerk to call 911.

“The baby is gorgeous. I can’t believe somebody would throw away a baby like that,” said Karen Vaughan, 45, who fed the infant milk before police arrived to take her to the hospital.

The baby was listed in stable condition at Brookdale Hospital yesterday.
