GODZILLA & ELMO-SAN

It’s “Godzilla Meets the Muppets!”

Hideki Matsui was all smiles yesterday as he was congratulated by a pair of Elmos from “Sesame Street” following the Yanks’ exhibition game against the Yomiuri Giants in Tokyo.

In a blast heard ’round the world, Matsui stepped to the plate in his first at-bat yesterday and hit a hanging curveball into the right-center field seats for a home run.

The big boom sparked a 6-2 victory for our Pinstripers as Godzilla played in his native Japan for the first time since coming to The Bronx in 2002.

“It was great! It was unbelievable!” a beaming Derek Jeter roared after Magnificent Matsui rounded the bases. “You couldn’t have written a better script for him.”

And Joe Torre – who’s known for his poker face – couldn’t help but smile.

“He knows how to rise to the occasion,” Torre said.

Security will be tight for tomorrow’s opener against Tampa. Fans will pass through metal detectors and explosives experts will be on standby.
