MOUNTIES TOUGH TEST FOR FRIARS

SOMETIMES, a 21-game winning streak can be a dangerous thing. Just ask Rich Reichert.

“When the season started, that’s all anyone talked about,” said Reichert, the head coach at St. Anthony’s. “But we had a lot of new starters, nine on defense.”

Unfortunately for Reichert, his team bought into the hype. “Some of them thought that if you put on the uniform, that’s enough,” he said. “But we learned that this team hadn’t won anything, no matter what the guys before them had done.”

They found out soon enough, with a lopsided opening-week loss to Poly Prep.

Three overwhelming wins later, the Friars appear as dominant as ever as they defend their CHSFL title. They should face a good test today when they travel to the Bronx to play Mount St. Michael at 2:30 p.m.

Mount hasn’t suffered a league loss yet, either, but they haven’t met an opponent like St. Anthony’s. The Friars feature a tremendous running attack that features Matt Hahn, who rushed for over 200 yards last week against Holy Trinity. Prediction: St. Anthony’s 38, Mount 18.

Lincoln at Fort Hamilton, tomorrow, noon: Fort Hamilton suffered a heartbreaking loss to Sheepshead Bay a week ago and now hosts undefeated Lincoln, as the Railsplitters continue to find ways to win. Prediction: Lincoln 14, FH 8.

Chaminade vs. Farrell, at Hofstra, tomorrow, 1:30 p.m.: Two of the best teams in the CHSFL. Prediction: Chaminade 14, Farrell 8.

Brooklyn Tech at South Shore, tomorrow, 11 a.m.: Tech has emerged as a top team in the PSAL. Prediction: BT 26, SouthShore 6.

Curtis at Tottenville, tonight, 7:00: An inexperienced Curtis squad still figures to give Tottenville trouble – but the Pirates will prevail. Prediction: Tottenville 34, Curtis 18.
