HOPE SOMEONE GIVES A SNAP

GIANT NOTES

Jim Fassel didn’t want to have this concern again, but it’s back and bad as ever.

Long snapper Ryan Kuehl was back on the field yesterday, but his elbow tendinitis again prevented him from snapping and he will not be able to play tomorrow in Baltimore.

“We’ve got to solve this,” Fassel said. “Right now, we’ve got nobody to snap the ball. Nobody.”

The Giants were searching for a replacement yesterday from the waiver wire.

* The days of Ron Dayne fighting for the starting running back spot are a distant memory, which is something the former Heisman winner has come to grips with.

“I know there’s already a starting running back,” Dayne said of Tiki Barber. “I just want to play, really.”

Fassel wants the same thing. One area that remains cloudy on the Giants roster is that of backup RB, a job that in previous years has been Dayne’s. But with Dorsey Levens’ presence, combined with Dayne’s struggles this summer (15 yards in three games), nothing is certain.

“Levens is a [running] back,” Fassel said. “He’s not just for short yardage. I hope to get some clarity at backup running back.”

FB Jim Finn is just hoping to stay with the team.

“[Tomorrow’s game] is the Super Bowl for me,” Finn said. “If I don’t do my job, I won’t have a job.”

* Kicker Mike Hollis [back] should be “fine, he just needs some rest,” Fassel said, adding that he still hadn’t made a decision between Hollis and Matt Bryant. If Hollis can’t play, Fassel said he will have to base his decision on the first three exhibition games.
