GIANTS CLAIM DACH IN A SNAP

GIANT NOTES

The Giants’ seemingly never-ending quest to find a long snapper continued yesterday with the claiming of Carson Dach, who had been waived by the Bears.

Dach will play tomorrow in the team’s preseason finale in Baltimore, replacing Ryan Kuehl, who is out with elbow tendinitis. Reserve snappers Chris Bober (ribs) and Nick Greisen (hamstring) are not expected to play.

Before Dach’s signing, Jim Fassel lamented his team’s plight at practice.

“We’ve got to solve this,” said Fassel, whose team was plagued by snapping problems a year ago. “Right now, we’ve got nobody to snap the ball. Nobody.”

Now they have Dach, a rookie with one preseason game of experience waived Monday. He was the long snapper at Eastern Michigan for four seasons.

Since the Giants had an extra spot on their roster, they didn’t have to make a roster move to add Dach.

The days of Ron Dayne fighting for the starting running back spot are a distant memory, which is something the former Heisman winner has come to grips with.

“I know there’s already a starting running back,” Dayne said of Tiki Barber. “I just want to play, really.”

FB Jim Finn is hoping just to stay with the team.

“[Tomorrow’s game] is the Super Bowl for me,” Finn said. “If I don’t do my job, I won’t have a job.”

Kicker Mike Hollis [back] should be “fine, he just needs some rest,” said Fassel, who added that he still hadn’t made a decision between Hollis and Matt Bryant. If Hollis can’t play, Fassel said he will have to decide based on the first three games.
