STIRLING CEMENTS STAFF

First-year bench boss Steve Stirling rounded out his Islanders coaching staff yesterday, naming Curt Fraser and Jeff Jackson as his two new assistants. Including players, the organization now has all the pieces in place for the September opening of training camp in West Virginia.

Jackson compiled a 182-52-25 record with two NCAA championships in his six seasons as head coach at Lake Superior State. His teams made it to the NCAA Final in three straight seasons, winning in 1992 and 1994.

Jackson also led the 1996 U.S. Junior Team to a silver medal at the World Junior Championships in Switzerland.

Fraser, 45, was the Thrashers’ head coach from 1999-2002. The former winger ended his 12-year NHL career in 1990. Fraser, who played with Chicago and Minnesota, was a member of the 1981-82 Canucks, who made it to the Stanley Cup Finals but were cut down by the Islanders.
