LUCIOUS CONTRACT DECISION REMAINS UP IN AIR

NET NOTES

With Reggie Miller’s name swirling in a hopeful but hardly realistic vein, Nets coach Byron Scott felt something could be done by the end of the day yesterday with Lucious Harris.

Team president Rod Thorn felt it was “a possibility but not a probability” about getting done that quick. And Harris’ agent said any re-signing was “up to the Nets.”

“We don’t have a deal done,” said agent Jerome Stanley, who is mulling a second offer from the Nets. “I don’t know where things are. It’s up to the Nets to make it happen. The negotiations are on-going, it’s safe to say it is a difficult process.”

* Jason Kidd, who had waffled after a long season, confirmed yesterday he will play for the Olympic qualifying team next month.

“I’m in. I’m going. I started working out yesterday. So I’m excited about going there and playing my 10, 12 minutes,” he said with a smile.

* Scott, a former teammate of Miller’s with Indiana, admitted he’d like getting the notorious Knick-killer.

“I would love to have Reggie Miller on the team. Is it something that is going to happen? Probably not. I don’t think that is something that is going to happen,” said Scott.

“Reggie is happy in Indiana.” Pacers officials concur.

* Scott acknowledged he has a list of assistant coaches narrowed down to about five. “We have made some progress,” he said, noting “hopefully some decisions [will be] made in the next couple of weeks.”

* Thorn said he will speak with Kenyon Martin on Aug. 1 regarding a contract extension, but declined comment on Martin’s recent call for a maximum contract.
