Method: We used the Inventory of Life Quality for Children (ILC), McMaster Family Assessment Device (GFS) and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). These instruments were used to assess Quality of Life, family functioning, emotional and behavioural problems in deaf and hard-of-hearing (n= 20) and hearing Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) patients (n = 717) as well as in a hearing normative sample (n= 1032). Results: We found that Quality of Life and family functioning of deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) CAP patients were comparable to those of their hearing CAP peers. DHH CAP patients showed a non-significant tendency to report more emotional and behavioural difficulties than hearing CAP patients. Conclusion: Based on these results, Norwegian deaf and hard-of-hearing CAP patient...

In Norway, the C-TRF is frequently used by the Educational and Psychological Counselling Service or for referrals to special health services, however, its psychometric properties in the Norwegian context have not yet been explored. The aim of this study was to investigate the internal consistency of the C-TRF and its factorial validity in a Norwegian preschool context. METHOD This study is based on baseline data from the project Children in Central Norway, where a total of 169 preschool teachers reported on the C-TRF for 1430 children aged 1-6 years. RESULTS The findings indicate promising psychometric properties for the C-TRF in terms of internal consistency and factorial validity, however, the somatic complaints scale seems problematic because of its poor psychometric properties. CONCLUSION Users of the C-TRF can be confident in the instrument's applicability in a Norwegian context, however, careful considerations when applying the somatic complaints scale in clinical decision making is warranted.

The aim of this study is to investigate stability and change over more than a decade in self-reported QoL, emotional problems, and negative stressful life-events among students. Three large cross-sectional samples (N = 1032, 4744 and 3826) of 13–17-year-old adolescents attending public school in the Norwegian County of Trøndelag provide data, one from 2017 to 2019 and two from 11 and 13 years earlier. We analyzed linear and binary linear regression adjusted for age. We found few indications of large changes in overall QoL. The exception was a 50% increase in reported emotional problems in both girls and boys. Girls also reported an increase of sexually uncomfortable/abusive acts from peers from 3.7 to 7.0%. The observed changes must be addressed through public health interventions targeting school as an important arena.

Changes and stability of QoL have been poorly examined, despite the fact that children and adolescents undergo profound developmental changes. The aims of the study were to investigate short-term changes in student QoL with regard to sex and age in a school-based sample. Methods: A representative Norwegian sample of 1,821 school children, aged 8–16 years and their parents were tested at baseline and 6 months later, using the Inventory of Life Quality for Children and Adolescents (ILC) and the Kinder Lebensqualität Fragebogen (KINDL). Student response rate at baseline was 71.2 % and attrition over the follow-up period was 4.6%, and 1,336 parents (70%) completed the follow-up. Change scores between baseline and follow-up evaluations were analysed by means of ANCOVA in regard to sex and age effects. Results: Students in the 8th grade re...

The «Self-Perception Profile for Adolescents» (SPPA), developed by Susan Harter at the University of Denver, USA, is a self-report instrument for measuring domain specific and global self-perception/self-esteem. In the early 1990’s, Lars Wichstrøm translated the SPPA into Norwegian, adapted it, and validated it in a large representative sample of Norwegian adolescents (13-20 years of age). SPPA is free of charge, with copy right by Wichstrøm. The target group includes both the general population and clinical samples. Adolescents evaluate their competence on six different domains of their self-perception (academic, social, athletic, physical, romantic, close friends), in addition to their global self-perception. It takes approximately ten minutes to complete the SPPA. There are no requirements in terms of competence for administrating and scoring the SPPA. Literature search. We included 33 Norwegian articles, of which 30 were based on studies with 100 participants or mor...
