A new female wasp from Cenomanian Burmese amber was described as Peleserphus qufuensis sp. nov. i... more A new female wasp from Cenomanian Burmese amber was described as Peleserphus qufuensis sp. nov. in the proctotrupoid family Peleserphidae, which emerged in the Late Jurassic–mid-Cretaceous. It provides new data on the diversity of the family in Cenomanian Burmese amber and extends the records to five species.
Abstract Burmoxyela lii gen. et sp. nov. is described and illustrated based on a male collected f... more Abstract Burmoxyela lii gen. et sp. nov. is described and illustrated based on a male collected from mid-Cretaceous Kachin (Burmese) amber. Pinguixyela gen. nov. is described for Syspastoxyela pinguis Wang, Shih, Ren & Gao, 2019, and Syspastoxyela simpla Wang, Shih, Ren & Gao, 2019 is transferred to the genus Striaexyela Zheng et al., 2019 as Striaexyela simpla (Wang, Shih, Ren & Gao, 2019), comb. nov., both from Kachin amber. This results in 5 genera and 6 species comprising the family thus far. A key to genera and species of Syspastoxyelidae is provided. The family is consideded as the most basal branch of Hymenoptera sister to Xyelidae. Biologically Syspastoxyelidae are hypothesized to develop within male cones of conifer trees and to feed on pollen grains both as adult and immature. Our discovery supports the hypothesis that the mid-Cretaceous Kachin biota was highly endemic.
Abstract A planthopper originally assigned to the genus Boreocixius in Surijokocixiidae (Surijoko... more Abstract A planthopper originally assigned to the genus Boreocixius in Surijokocixiidae (Surijokocixioidea, Fulgoromorpha) from the Ladinian (Middle Triassic) of Tongchuan in Shaanxi, northwestern China is described as Boreocixius tongchuanensis Zhang et al. sp. nov. As the third species ascribed to the genus, it differs from its congeners in having the much larger tegmen with postnodal veinlets and pigmented bands, providing new morphological information for Boreocixius. The establishment of the new species further increases the diversity of Boreocixius and Surijokocixiidae as well.
Abstract A new genus and species of the family Angarosphecidae, Decasphex cretacicus gen. et sp. ... more Abstract A new genus and species of the family Angarosphecidae, Decasphex cretacicus gen. et sp. nov., from the mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber is described and illustrated. The new genus and species is most similar to Burmasphex Melo et Rosa, 2018 and can be easily distinguished in having female antenna 10-segmented (vs. 12-segmented), mesosoma more elongate, forewing with cell 2cua lower, and metasomal segments 1–3 not separated with deep constrictions. Ten-segmented female antenna is a novel morphotype example of the morphological diversity of Apoidea. A key to genera of the Angarosphecidae is provided.
Tegulicicada plana Lin,1986 from the Middle Jurassic of South China,is transferred to the genus K... more Tegulicicada plana Lin,1986 from the Middle Jurassic of South China,is transferred to the genus Karabasia as Karabasia plana(Lin,1986) comb.nov.,and is re-described as the first Peloridioidea from China.This discovery extends the palaeogeographical distribution of Mesozoic Peloridioidea from the warm temperate zone(Central Asia,Siberia and Mongolia) to the subtropical and/or tropical areas of South China.An annotated list of species of Karabasiidae(fossil Peloridioidea) is presented.
Hymenopteran fossils from Daohugou, Inner Mongolia, China are assigned to 17 families. These incl... more Hymenopteran fossils from Daohugou, Inner Mongolia, China are assigned to 17 families. These include, in decreasing order of importance, Ephialtitidae, Xyelidae, Siricidae, Xyelydidae, Anaxyelidae, Karatavitidae s.l., Mesoserphidae, Megalyridae and Praeaulacidae. Analysis of the taxonomic composition suggests that the assemblage is of Mid Jurassic age. The rather low abundance of Xyelidae suggests that the climate in Daohugou during the Mid Jurassic might have been thermally intermediate between that of peri‐Baikal Siberia during the Early/Mid Jurassic transition and southern Kazakhstan during the early Late Jurassic. A new family, Protosiricidae fam. nov., is established herein and the family Gigasiricidae is reduced in rank to Gigasiricinae and referred to the Siricidae.
