Epäonnistumisista oppiminen on kuitenkin haasteellista, sillä epäonnistumisten jakaminen on vaikeaa. Tämä artikkeli tarkastelee interventiota, joka on kehitetty uusiutuvan energian kokeilujen epäonnistumisista oppimisen tukemiseksi. Energiakokeilijoiden After Work -tilaisuuksien sarja toteutettiin Suomessa eri paikkakunnilla vuosina 2018–2019. Siihen osallistui yhteensä 139 energiakokeiluista kiinnostunutta asiantuntijaa. Tilaisuuksien tarkoitus oli rohkaista energiakokeilijoita jakamaan kokemuksensa epäonnistumisista kokeilukulttuurin tukemiseksi ja paikallisten oppien levittämiseksi. This article presents a case study on a demand response (DR) pilot project dealing with the appli... more This article presents a case study on a demand response (DR) pilot project dealing with the application of DR in a grocery store with the utilization of refrigeration equipment as energy storage and photovoltaics (PV) as an energy source. DR has recently gained increased interest due to the growing penetration of intermittent renewable energy requiring flexibility in power consumption. The smart power grid enables the introduction of novel solutions to increase flexibility and the entrance of new actors into the markets. Developing new solutions for the mainstream markets requires experimentation in real-life settings serving the development of technological capabilities, necessary policies and regulation, and user and market needs, as well as adaptation of and to infrastructure and maintenance systems. Self-building courses have been identified as a stimulus for user innovations, local embedding an... more Self-building courses have been identified as a stimulus for user innovations, local embedding and diffusion of renewable energy technology. In this paper we explore the Finnish solar heat collector self-building courses. Our empirical material consists of field observations, interviews with teachers and a survey of participants since the early activities in late 1990s. Our findings show that course participants have started to follow energy discussions, collect information and actively advise others. Participants view themselves as increasing capable actors in renewable energy. They have also begun to engage in energy saving and renewable energy at home on a wide front. The fact that only 41% have installed their collector points to the importance of timing but also to the way in which self-building courses serve as a first step into renewable energy. ABSTRACT The residential sector is responsible for a considerable share of global greenhouse-gas ... more ABSTRACT The residential sector is responsible for a considerable share of global greenhouse-gas emissions. In cold climates, space heating and energy-efficiency improvements are critical. Solutions can be off-the-shelf technologies, user modifications to adapt such technologies to local needs or behavioural measures. This paper conducts carbon footprint and profitability analyses of 20 such measures, including conventional technical measures, user modifications and behavioural changes in Finland. The study focuses on detached houses that have the most common heating system in the Finnish context—direct electricity, which is particularly problematic because it limits the options for improvement. The results show that the largest energy and emission savings resulted from heat pump installations and adding insulation to the roof. The most profitable measures were related to heat pumps. Some of the user modifications appeared promising in both respects.

The Environmental Protection Agency mandated the International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE) at Lund University to conduct a research study on nudging. The study has served and will serve as a direct input to further strategic work on sustainable consumption policies. The aim of the report is to synthesize existing knowledge about the effects achievable with nudging on consumption and the environment, in what areas nudging according to research can have the best effect and how nudging should be applied to give the best effect. The study comprised a literature review and interviews to collect experiences of working with nudging available in some countries.
