Indie duo Good Neighbours put their heart and soul into their songs, so when it came to choosing which one to perform for their Apple Music Session, “Ripple” jumped out at Oli Fox and Scott Verrill. “It’s our new song, our new baby,” they tell Apple Music. “We’re very proud of it and it’s nice to finally have it in the world. It was one of the first songs we wrote for the band. And we just wanted to frame it in a new way, so we stripped it down, gave it a mellow vibe and it feels like it’s taken on a new life.” “Ripple” is a song that means a lot to Good Neighbours, so the duo felt it was even more special to give it a new treatment. “The song itself was always quite a deep one for us. It was written about my friend going through grief, and we sort of hid behind the production of this song for quite a while,” say Fox and Verrill. “So it’s nice to let it take on a bit of a new form where the words are at the forefront, and people can hear the message we’re trying to tell them about.” For their cover, the boys went for a dreamy version of Gracie Abrams’ “That’s so True” because they think the original is “an absolute belter”. “This song has been everywhere and we can’t escape it,” they say. “But, for once, it’s a song that we actually love and we don’t want to escape. We’re big fans of Gracie Abrams and the album so it’s cool just to put our spin on this tune.” They came up with the new versions while touring across North America with Foster the People during early 2025: “Both of these were made on our bus. And it’s our first time ever doing that. It’s a lot of sleep deprivation that has sparked some creativity within us to do these songs. But it’s been really fun and it’s kind of taken us back to where it all started, doing iPhone recordings of guitars and vocals and doing it that way from scratch. So it’s been super fun and we’re proud of them.”
