Leray wastes no time with small talk on What Happened to Forever?, her first release since 2024’s Lemon Cars EP: “All the times I caught you cheatin’/I should’ve killed you,” she trills with unnerving sweetness in the opening bars to “Keep It”. (Later she wails, “Why!?” no less than nine times in a row, for anyone doubting her commitment to the “woman scorned” bit.) The five-track EP is a speed-run through the stages of grief, in this case regarding a messy breakup—only replace “bargaining” with “eviscerating your sorry excuse for a friend group,” and swap “depression” for “cheating on you right back”. No surprise that by the snarling closer, “Lick Back”, Coi’s fully got her groove back.
