The problem is even worse among women who are faced with higher rates of morbidity and hospitalization. The objective of the study was to assess demographic and media factors affecting the demand for community, employer provided and private health insurance among women in Uganda. Methods: The study used secondary data from the 2016 Uganda Demographic Health Survey, a nationally representative survey. The sample comprised of 18,506 women aged 15-49 years from a population of 20,880 households. Data were analyzed using STATA version 15. Descriptive statistics, Chi square tests and the Firth logistic regression were used to understand the frequency distribution of different types of health insurance, demographic and media factors, associations between different types of health insurance, demographic and media fact...

The study aimed at ascertaining the proportion of fertilizer usage i.e. both organic and inorganic fertilizer types, the contribution of fertilizer use to the performance of agricultural sector and to determine the effect of availability of credit facilities on fertilizer use. The study relied on primary data that was collected through a well formulated questionnaire, a sample of 500 respondents were interviewed, and analysis was carried out at univariate, bivariate and at multivariate levels. Results from the chi-square estimation revealed that soil type, fertility, education level of the farmer, age, amount of fertilizers used among others significantly constrained fertilizer utilization among small scale farmers. These results were further reconfirmed by a logistic regression fitted to the data that showed that land size, amou...

There is a scanty agreement in this regard today. For the case of Uganda, a country that has had a fair share of its instabilities and wars, the subject of military expenditure and national security becomes a topic of national importance. And although the country has registered some progress in economic growth, hovering at around 5% annually, its military expenditure as a percentage of GDP has also been raising at an average of 2.5%, and it is projected to continue rising if the present uncertainty in the country remains unabated. Thus, in this study, a time series model is estimated to analyze the association between military/defense expenditure (as % of GDP) and economic growth in Uganda for the period 1970 through 201...

Although the country has progressed in improving other education indicators, this hasn’t translated into better schooling outcomes. Therefore, this study sought to determine the significance of private tutoring on English literacy levels. The study utilized secondary data from the Uwezo Uganda National Learning Assessment 2014 survey and generalized structural equation modelling to determine significant predictors. The variables that had a direct effect included private tutoring, child’s age and gender, pre-school attendance, school type, household size, household head gender and education level. The variables that had an indirect effect through private tutoring were region of residence, school type and household head education level. The study observed a need for the government through the Ministry of Education to come up with a regulatory framework t...
