India has impressive demography with a high level of youth population; it is one of the fastest-growing economies with a high level of GDP; it has an abundance of natural resources. All these factors add to its potential of being a global superpower. But in a rapidly globalising world, it is essential to ensure a germane representation of the nation’s interest. In recent years, India’s foreign affairs minister and the head of government have exhibited positive vim to engage with other countries. This has been marked by incidental events where India took the central stage and gained support for its ideals. As India acquires an influential position in the global arena, it is shedding the image of being merely a former British colony. The transition from a balancing power to a leading power is credited to the effective changes in the way India presents itself before the world. The noted author Sreeram Chaulia in his 2016 book ‘Modi Doctrine: The Foreign Policy of India’s Prime Minister’ describes how every realm of Indian foreign policy - commercial diplomacy, defense diplomacy, diaspora outreach, cultural diplomacy, geostrategy, and soft power has been transformed by the prime minister with a sense of destiny not witnessed in recent memory.

Before this happened, the world was engulfed in the ruckus of Cold War. Most countries were busy in opting out which camp to join for its best interest and the use of soft power to gain ideological consent was at its peak. The dissolution of one of the camps was a clear victory of another. The world had got a superpower which it embraced, whether it was with coercion, fear or hope mattered the least. It was then that most of the political scientists accepted the argument that had been kept forward two years before Soviet Union officially ended (in 1989) by Francis Fukuyama, that the world history had indeed reached an end. This end, referred not to an end of all historical events but to ideological developments. It simply stated the victory of all values that had been kept forward by North America, ranging from the need for democracy tk the necessity of market economies. This paper elaborates on Fukuyama's thesis and seeks an answer to whether the End of History really means an end to the ideological and social evolution? Would there exist no other thought, philosophy or ideology which has the potential to compete with Liberalism?
