What Video Game Did I Play Yesterday?

October 3rd, 2024

I did not do great at gaming last night! Other than running through login bonuses in my many mobile games, I started Refind Self: The Personality Test Game, an indie game I'd thought looked interesting in the Switch eShop. I only played it for a few minutes so far, but it is interesting- you go around a little RPG-ish world and decide what to do, and every action you take influences how the game reads your character's personality. Once you take enough actions, that playthrough ends. I'm looking forward to playing more, but want to kick butt at getting stuff done today, too, so I'm not sure how that'll go for now.

My Neocities HTML editor looks really spiffy this morning, which I am grateful for both in terms of readability, and because it gave me a small something extra to say here. It looks like it might be a special Halloween theme.

So far, I have had an excellent start of the month for crafts, which I might share later, but not so amazing a time with games. I did play Bleach: Soul Puzzle a little more last night, but started dozing three or four puzzles in. Sleep was most important, so I just set it aside from there.

I ended up being a little too scrambled last night for any decent gaming, but tried yet another anime mobile game. Last night's choice was Bleach: Soul Puzzle, and I actually liked it quite a lot. It's cute, and filling a match-3 screen with exploding powerups is fun and satisfying. I have a difficult to pin down suspicion that this might get shut down before too long, just because match-3 feels like such an odd genre match for shonen. That's no reason not to enjoy it for now, though.

I'm doing a quick post this morning, but'll probably pop back in later to do some setup for October. I'm cutting it close, but have been painfully lazy and sluggish this month.

I got kind of swamped by cooking and a D&D night yesterday, so I only played mobile games. Like usual, I spent the most time chipping away at quests in Wixoss Multiverse, feeling delighted by the turn based havoc my little anime girls can wreak before hitting another steep levelling wall.

I played more than just the daily login on Cardcaptor Sakura: Memory Key, too, but not a ton. This game is so cutscene heavy that, even though it's low intensity, I really feel like I have to be in the mood for it. It's cute, but maybe slightly too idle an idle game.

I feel like last week, I did an extremely bad job of accomplishing things, as I did the week before. I want to try to turn that around next week, but don't have the world's highest hopes that I'll be able to. Still, I'll give it a shot! I have a somewhat big, at least conceptually, cross stitch project I want to try, and plan to get back to studying Japanese well, too. If I don't pull it off, though, that's okay, too!

As far as games go, I continued my inexplicable dedication to Wixoss Multiverse yesterday, plodding through piles of "give us money!" menus to make my anime girls rush murder towers and fight dinosaur riders.

It wasn't a major games day, so other than that, I did some extremely bad play in Pokemon Puzzle League while I was sleepy.

I cleared some item merging missions in Prison Noctis, too, but felt somewhat frustrated that my little merge board was getting cluttered. I think the game wants me to buy storage so I can tidy it up, but I don't intend to do that.

I had a little bit of energy back last night, but used all of it reading. I really got involved in A Night to Remember by Walter Lord, which is a very readable history of the Titanic's sinking. It's so crazy to think about how, even though 1912 seems so long ago, it was recent enough that I can click on my Kindle and pour over interviews with the survivors. History is neat!

I finished up The Big Bundle by Max Allan Collins, too, which was an efficent and tense true-crime based noir, and on the comics front, buzzed through The Perks of Being an S-Class Heroine, which, so far, is a charming reincarnation story. I'm really fascinated with how these reincarnated heroine, saint, and villainess stories iterate on each other to, past just being ripoffs of one another, develop their own internal logic and genre conventions at such a quick pace. Plus, I like to read fluffy brain candy, so it's easy to indluge.

Anyway, I know this isn't a books blog, but it's kind of fun to share sometime. On the games front, I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary. I started in on the new weekly events in Wixoss Multiverse, clearing all that I could without tossing real cash at the game.

I played a few levels in Pocket Quest, too, getting a weapon that could inflict burn damage and feeling massively powerful in my tile matching exploits.

I'm still feeling draggy for difficult to divine reasons, but did play Sims 2 Pets on DS for a few minutes last night, after all my mobile game logins were cleared. I got in the mood to play a life sim sort of game, but realized that I hadn't played Sims 4 since starting this blog and had already done my five new game pages for the month! 'Twas quite tragic.

Last time I tried Sims 2 Pets, I was baffled and unimpressed, finding the whole thing totally incomprehensible. Last night, my play session went way better. It felt a bit slow paced and empty, but straightforward and decently easy to follow. I wish more clients had come into the vet clinic during the couple days I played through, but since they didn't, my sim got lots of chances to try and fail at cooking cheese in a skillet. That's pretty much what I wanted, so it was okay.
