When We Decide To Buy

My thoughts about buying a new washer

The truth is most of our buying decisions are irrational. We buy because of a desire in us to want something that may improve our lives.

It can be an advertisement, a salesperson prospecting on us or because of a need to conform to social expectations.

We often take a long time to decide on something. For example, I am contemplating buying a new washer but still have not decided because my existing washer is still usable.

Last year, I told myself I should buy a new washer when the five-year warranty expires in November 2023. It had already expired, and I had repaired this washer several times.

There are current promotions at the store, which still does not move me to decide. I am still taking my time to consider.

When will be the time for my decision? It would be when my existing washer has a problem that needs repair. Besides that, it could be the salesperson who can persuade me to act.

But finally, who knows? I may be happy at a store with promotions, and I would decide to confirm my order.

Hence, my decision may not be based on logic but more on emotions because if it is based on logic, I should replace my washer since it is already past its warranty period in November 2023.

Do you think I am right? Do we behave a little irrationally when we decide to make a purchase?
