Here we are standing,
far from our hearts’ home,
a desert of longing,
where souls roam.
Weathered by absence,
a silent,
aching cry,
a longing of days gone by.
Familiar faces,
now distant stars,
missed laughter,
leaving open scars.
In crowded cities,
we search for a trace,
of warmth and belonging,
in this cold surroundings.
A voice of home,
in every passing breeze,
a phantom of comfort,
amongst the city’s frieze.
We cling to memories,
like tattered,
worn-out art,
a fragile lifeline,
to our broken heart.
Yet, in this loneliness,
a strength starts to grow,
a resilience arises,
from life’s bitter blow.
Perhaps in this distance,
we find a clearer view,
of what truly matters,
and what we must pursue.
To love the present,
with open,
hopeful hand,
and rediscover ourselves,
in this foreign land.
For in this journey,
though painful and long,
we may find a new song,
a stronger heart to belong.
