I’ve always believed that how someone travels is a reflection of who they are. I’m lucky to have been raised in family that was always traveling. Maybe not to exotic places, but we spent every summer road tripping to someplace new.

These weren’t luxury trips. We loaded up our Buick Skylark (do they even make those anymore?), put the tape deck in the backseat because the car didn’t even have one, and hit the road. We stopped at rest stops and gas stations along the way. Then we hit every site, big or small, along the road.

Our accommodations were about as ritzy as our mode of transportation. In other words, we mostly slept in Motel 6's along the way. I didn’t mind it. As a young child, I didn’t know better. In fact, motels were exciting to me. I remember immediately jumping on the bed once we got into the motel room. Why is this a thing kids do? Something about the…
