Eight months ago, I quit my job.

It was a cushy job. I had great pay and benefits. I liked my boss. Everything was great.

On the surface.

Underneath that perfect, shiny veneer, I was miserable. I was miserable because I felt like I wasn’t doing what I was supposed to be doing — following my dreams. Pursuing my passion.

When I got a job right out of college, I didn’t really know what my dreams or my passions were. As I continued in the workforce, something stitched an unforgettable tattoo with the beating of my heart.

Writer. Writer. I want to be a writer.

At first, I just wanted to be a writer for a company. A copywriter. A content marketer.

But that didn’t feel quite right either. The truth finally stared me in the face when I got a job as a writer, and then another job as a writer, and then finally the cushy writer job: Yes, I wanted to be a writer, but not this kind of writer.

I wanted to be an author.

I had started and stopped writing different story ideas for many years. I never fully committed to any of them. I never invested…
