Short stories of Roland McCray

Over the course of a decade, I wrote eighteen short stories that revolve around a character I created, Roland McCray. He grows up naive but gains an understanding of his grandfather’s wisdom, that all things work for our best if we allow it. Roland sees his grandfather’s simple, abiding faith, and although he doesn’t see it, he develops his own, unwavering trust he is always being watched over.

Because these stories were not written to be a single collection, there is some repeated information between them, but I have tried to correct much of it. The story below, The Black Butterfly, was the first Roland Mcray story. The ones that follow are scenes of Roland as he grows up with the final story when he is eighteen years old.

In this story, The Black Butterfly, eight-year-old Roland gains life-changing lessons in a simple afternoon of kite flying.
