5 Things I Miss the Most About Living in Japan

Too bad the U.S. is so far away.

Japan is one of those places that lives up to the hype.

There are endless things to see and do, and there’s no way you could spend any amount of time traveling around Japan and not leave impressed, with your phone full of gorgeous photos and your mind full of priceless memories.

Well, unless you’re hard to please, fussy, or have a bad attitude. But if that’s the case, I’m afraid there’s no helping you.

I lived in Japan for two years teaching English with my husband, and while we lived in a little town called Yanai in Yamaguchi Prefecture, (about 2 hours from Hiroshima and only an hour from Miyajima, which is where you can find the beautiful torii gate in the image above), we traveled all over the country.

To places on all four of the main islands (Kyushu, Honshu, Shikoku, and Hokkaido), Okinawa, and countless other small islands.

After experiencing so much of the country and the culture, Japan has a special place in my heart. It would take too long to name all of the things I miss, so here are the 5 I think about the most.

#1 Food

Obviously, right? But oh my goodness, Japanese food. Their western friends try to mimic it, but…
