The overarching theme of the past year has been uncertainty. Living with it has been hard. As humans, we crave information about the future. Our brain perceives ambiguity as a threat and does all it can to protect us by diminishing our ability to focus.

Uncertainty wreaks havoc in all areas of our life. Take, for example, job uncertainty. We wake up every day with a feeling of dread, not knowing if we will still have a job tomorrow. It inhibits a mental bias called loss aversion— you fear losing what you already have, so it’s easier to remain in the path you are already on despite there being better options. Uncertainty can stop us from achieving our goals and aspirations.

But the only certainty in life is uncertainty. Despite our brains trying to resist uncertainty, we can never really know what the future brings. Accepting uncertainty is hard, but it’s the most effective way of moving…
