70% x 55% = 39% is why hydrogen cars are dead

My (negative) stance on hydrogen is the consensus amongst physicists and engineers. Why anyone would think we should listen to politicians, Toyota or the oil industry stuns me.

Electrolysis is only around 70% efficient. Fuel cells for wheel turning are only 55% efficient (and burning hydrogen in ICEs is worse, it’s only around 40% efficient making it net 28% efficient). That gets you to a maximum of 39%( = 70% x 55%) efficiency compared to electricity which is up to 85% efficient at wheel turning (including battery inefficiencies).

Then include the inefficiency of having to store and tank hydrogen around everywhere!

The idea of using electricity to make hydrogen for wheel turning is completely insane. It’s a waste of HALF of your electricity not including the inefficiency of tanking it around to gas stations!

Hydrogen is an idea pushed only by the oil industry, legacy auto (some who think hydrogen ICEs will be the future which are only 28% efficient) and ignorant politicians.

Hydrogen for road transport is like the biggest gas-lighting scam in history.

Toyota has been a brilliant ICE company for decades.

That does not make it widely innovative across diverse domains.
