When intended meaning and understood meaning contradict.
The “secret” of being humans is our ability to understand and communicate in a civilized manner.
Most couples do not understand each other mainly because there is poor communication or no communication at all.

“Do I speak Chinese?”
The language is the same, but the internal mental processes of both sides are completely different. The reason that two humans speaking the same language do not understand each other can be several:
They do not listen to each other.
They do not interpret the words of the other side correctly.
Psychologists and conflict managers will say there is a complete misunderstanding because there is a difference between intended meaning (what I want to say) and understood meaning (what the other side thinks I noted).
