A BITMAP FONT FOR TEXT-MODE RETROFOSSILS

  • 16x16 glyph PNG with 6x8 pixel glyphs
  • Windows bitmap .FON version (only standard ASCII range works correctly since the extended range isn't ISO/Unicode compatible but the file contains all the glyphs)
  • implements codepage 437, also known as Extended ASCII
  • works out-of-the-box as a Dwarf Fortress Classic font

Since I personally love DOS-style 'fake-GUIs' that use extended ASCII glyphs, I wanted to create a bitmap font that includes all the glyphs of the extended ASCII range and makes nice looking borders, I'm currently using this for a project so I thought I'd share it here. I imagine it can be great for pure-ASCII roguelikes maybe.

You can use this font both in free and in commercial projects. If you use it and publish something, I'd be glad to hear about it, to have a look at what other people maybe create with it. Also, if you have suggestions, I'd love to hear from you for a v2.0 maybe.

Very nice font! I’m adding this to my stock set of fonts in SadConsole my Ascii game engine. I’ve added a readme text with attribution and a link here. The only thing I needed to modify was changing the foreground to white.

This won’t be uploaded to my GitHub until the next release, though. Here’s a screenshot of me testing the font in my demo app.

Very nice retro look. Thank you.
