Design/methodology/approach This study is based on software project teams working in India’s information technology sector. The study adopts a cross-sectional research design to investigate the relationships between the study’s constructs. Findings This study shows varying effects of the components of shared transformational leadership on team viability and team satisfaction. The study has shown empirical evidence for the mediating role of workplace spirituality in the relationship between shared transformational leadership components and team effectiveness components. This study reveals the intervening roles of workplace spirituality and team trust in the relationship between shared transformational leadership as a unidimensional construct and team viability and effectiveness. Research limitations/implications Team rewards and team autonomy can cultivate a sense of community and trust among team members. Team trust facilitates autonomy, and workplace spirituality helps develop connectedness among team members. Originality/value This study has contributed to the research discourse on team effectiveness by demonstrating that workplace spirituality and team trust act as mediators in the relationship between shared transformational leadership and team effectiveness. This study has shown the relative strength of the effects of the components of shared transformational leadership on workplace spirituality, team viability and team satisfaction.

We adopted a comprehensive review that covers empirical research on HRM - OC relationship, which was published between 2001 and 2016 in international peer-reviewed journals. A total of 63 empirical articles were included in this review. We adopted the content analysis method to synthesize the empirical findings on HRM - OC relationship and research methods adopted. Majority of the studies provided evidence of a positive association between HRM practices and OC. Evidence from this review pointed towards a significant mediating effect that the construct of OC exercised between HRM practices and different employee and organizational outcomes. Also, this review found support for an indirect relationship between HRM practices or systems and OC mediated by organizational environment characterized by factors such as, for example, work engagement, satisfaction with work, person - organization fit, and an enabling organizational climate.

These reforms address a central research question: What are the emerging factors influencing job performance in the Indian higher education context? This study adopts a qualitative research design to explore the emerging factors affecting job performance. Thirteen academic researchers from Indian universities participated in the focus group discussions. The results of focus group discussions unravel five themes: demographics, behaviours, motivation, context and skills. The focus group discussions foregrounded the debate on knowledge-sharing behaviours, organisational politics and networking skills. However, what remains unknown is whether the organisational actors’ political characteristics influence their knowledge sharing, affecting their job performance. In this regard, the authors propose a new mo...

A rigorous scale development process is adopted to validate the instrument’s psychometric properties. The study respondents are Indian full-time doctoral students in the management discipline.FindingsThe findings show that the construct of perceived challenge and hindrance demands is a first-order four-factor and a second-order two-factor model. The study has validated the scale to capture the challenge and hindrance demands of doctoral research programs with the following sub-constructs: doctoral program resource inadequacies, doctoral program ambiguity, doctoral program workload and c...

Drawing upon social exchange and uncertainty management theories, the authors examine how a three-way interaction effect of perceptions of organizational politics, political will and political skill contributes to knowledge hiding. In addition, this study aims to develop a nuanced understanding of the knowledge hiding phenomenon in the Indian higher education context. Design/methodology/approach This study adopts a mixed-method study design with an explanatory sequential approach. The authors gathered data through a cross-sectional survey of 286 researchers (Study 1) followed by two focus group discussions (Study 2) involving 13 academic researchers from five Indian universities. The sample includes full-time faculty members, postgraduate and full-time doctoral students engaged in research. Find...

In general, our results suggest that firms with CSR awards have lower cost of capital. In terms of firms' common risk factors, both book-to-market ratio and leverage are positively related to the cost of capital. In addition, family firms with CSR have lower cost of capital than do nonfamily firms with CSR. High earnings quality firms with CSR have significantly lower cost of capital than low earnings quality firms with CSR. Finally, firms with CSR and independent boards have lower cost of capital than firms with CSR but no independent boards.

This paper aims to analyze quadricentennial literature on career growth published during the years 1995 through 2020. In this paper, through bibliometric and integrative reviews, the authors address the two critical questions, “what do we know?” and “where should we go?” While the bibliometric review examines the evolution and trends, the integrative review examines the dynamics of conceptual frameworks, primary research foci, research context and quality in research designs and methods. Design/methodology/approach The study adopted preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses guidelines to identify the papers for this review. The data set comprised 102 papers and 60 papers for bibliometric and integrative review, respectively. “CiteSpace” is used for the b...

The family firms aspire to attain economic goals and maintain family control and influence over their firms. These conflicting goals may become detrimental to their entrepreneurial orientation and firm performance. Against the background of the heterogeneity of family firms, this article deliberates on the effects of socio-emotional wealth on entrepreneurial orientation. This article has explored the research trajectories and themes of socio-emotional wealth and entrepreneurial orientation research discourse by adopting the methods of bibliometric analysis and systematic review research protocol. This article reviews the findings of the research discourse on the relationship between socio-emotional wealth and entrepreneurial orientation. In particular, this article inquires whether family firms' entrepreneurial orientation decreases because they are concerned about preserving their socio-emotional wealth and, if so, under what conditions. This article also makes practical recommendations for using the desire to meet non-economic goals judiciously. This article provides insights into how family firms can change their business strategies to synthesize the much-needed entrepreneurial orientation to preserve their socioemotional wealth.

In this regard, this paper analyzes the different approaches of researchers to pin down the concept of workplace spirituality. Further, it probes into the diverse ways in which various research constructs of workplace spirituality have been operationalized. In this connection, discussion is made with regard to levels of analysis of the constructs of workplace spirituality. The concept of workplace spirituality is situated as a contextualized phenomenon of spirituality in general, even as religion is distinguished from spirituality. The originality of this paper lies in the comparative study that it makes of the constructs of workplace spirituality conceptualized and operationalized by prior research at individual, group and organizational levels. Further, this paper has critically reviewed the scales that have been developed to ca...

Gulf between theory and practice, undue emphasis on conceptual knowledge, and lamentable attention to knowledge assimilation are cited as the prominent reasons for significantly low level of managerial effectiveness. In this regard, this chapter analyses the current paradigms of management education in its attempt to make a case for the need for a paradigm shift in education. Review of prior research clearly articulates the need for a cross functional approach to management education to bridge the gap between theory and its application. Further, this chapter discusses the dimensions of the process-orientation paradigm that it articulates. Potential contributions of process orientation paradigm and challenges before the cross-functional perspective of management education are also presented.
