Lenitio in linguistica est genus mutationis phonologicae quae consonantes mutat, ut sonoriores (sicut vocales) fiant. Vox lenitionis ipsum 'mollire' vel 'lenire' generatim significat. Lenitio linguistica fieri potest synchronice (intra linguam certo tempore effecta) et diachronice (cum lingua per tempus commutatur). Lenitio efficere potest ut consonans suam locum articulationis amittat, res debuccalizatio appellata, quae consonantem in consonantem glottidalem mutat, sicut IPA [h] vel [ʔ], vel adeo facit ut consonans omnino evanescat.
