This is a linguistic phonetic study of the Northern Mon-Khmer language Wa, spoken by about one million people in an area on the border between China's Yunnan Province and the Shan State of Burma/Myanmar. Gerard Diffloth (1980) has worked on the historical phonology of Northern Mon-Khmer, but hitherto there has been little opportunity for the investigation of high-quality phonetic data. Previously, Wa has featured in the phonetic literature chiefly on account of its contrastive use of vowel phonation types (Maddieson and Ladefoged 1985; Thongkum 1988b), one of several phonetic correlates of the phonological register contrast found in many Mon-Khmer languages.

Western and Eastern Lawa are closely related Waic languages spoken in two provinces of northern T... more Western and Eastern Lawa are closely related Waic languages spoken in two provinces of northern Thailand: Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son. An orthography based on the Western Lawa variety spoken in Ban La-up has been developed and is used widely, especially by Christians, since there is a Western Lawa translation of the entire Bible. There is no Eastern Lawa orthography, and it was not clear before this survey whether or not the Eastern Lawa were shifting to Thai. A team of researchers surveyed the Lawa in February and March 2006, using sociolinguistic questionnaires and intelligibility testing in order to assess the need for further vernacular literature development among the Lawa.

Aggressive Buddhist nationalism has emerged as a considerable societal issue in Myanmar and a thr... more Aggressive Buddhist nationalism has emerged as a considerable societal issue in Myanmar and a threat to peaceful coexistence in this multi-religious and multi-ethnic country since the political transition. The paper argues that the integration of strong religious capacity and strong political needs is the main reason for the rapid development of Buddhist nationalism in Myanmar since 2011. To be specific, strong religious capacity provides possibilities, and strong political needs create the necessity for the rapid development of Buddhist nationalism. Taking the MaBaTha movement as an example, the paper concludes the developing trajectory and characteristics of the movement. In terms of strong religious capability of Buddhism, the authority and legitimacy of Buddhism in Myanmar lay the foundation for the emergence and expansion of MaBaTha; on the other hand, powerful social network of Buddhism and the extensive community service provided by Buddhist organizations makes MaBaTha have strong mobilization capabilities. In terms of strong domestic political needs, the economic and social realities during the period of political transition made MaBaTha's claims be widely accepted in Myanmar, and political elites' mobilization form was the driving force for the organization's rapid development. Finally, four suggestions are put forward on how to tackle the challenges brought by Buddhist nationalism in Myanmar.

2) Does the use of technology in Buddhist studies have any impact on students towards learning?
The advent of digital technology into the Buddhist education brought it into new territory with opportunities for Buddhists, both esoteric and exoteric followers, scholars, students, and practitioners. There is a requirement for Buddhists to link innovative technologies into their education systems to keep pace with modern methods. Buddhist education will remain ineffective without reformulating some substantial modifications to educate the young generation with Buddhist wisdom and values. Here in this workshop, I will try to discuss an Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint and Some handy tools for students: A basic guideline from researcher to researcher.
There will be 47 slides that are divided into two sections. The first section is an introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint which has 28 slides and the second section is about some handy tools for the student. Finally, I come to the conclusion and reading the bibliography. I have quoted that Nokia CEO ended his speech saying: “we didn’t do anything wrong but somehow, we lost”. [Published on May 9, 2016]
Influentially, mainstream technology is impacting Buddhist education in the digital age in both positive and negative manners. The presentation will cover online resources available for Buddhists to use for their research and practice as far as possible. Usage of technology such as visual acid, audiovisual material, and PowerPoint brings such classes to become more interesting and creates a more interactive learning. The digitization of various editions of Buddhist texts has expanded the scope of researchers. Yet, students and scholars are still not properly taking advantage of these digital resources. It is advisable to offer more preparatory classes to students so that they can utilize these handy resources.
In the 21st century, a majority of Buddhist canon written in Pāli, Chinese, Tibetan, Sanskrit and other languages have been digitized, most of which are freely made available in both CD Rom and Internet for public use. This digitization of Buddhist texts is said to have begun in the late 1980s (Lancaster 2003, p. 79-86).
In summary, innovative technology has certainly made easier to enhance the capabilities of learners. It has helped develop the study of Buddhism in a great way. Buddhist academics should utilize digital tools to promote their scholarly works mindfully.

It covers basic terms, usages, sentence structures, vocabulary and so on. The objective of this book is to those who interested in Wa studies in understanding and then ease mutual communication between each other. On the other hand, current publication is in fact to maintain and make Wa ethnic understandable to outsiders or exoteric explorers. This low resolution was uploaded for the purpose of educational material only. Not for commercial purpose.

This is a linguistic phonetic study of the Northern Mon-Khmer language Wa, spoken by about one million people in an area on the border between China's Yunnan Province and the Shan State of Burma/Myanmar. Gerard Diffloth (1980) has worked on the historical phonology of Northern Mon-Khmer, but hitherto there has been little opportunity for the investigation of high-quality phonetic data. Previously, Wa has featured in the phonetic literature chiefly on account of its contrastive use of vowel phonation types (Maddieson and Ladefoged 1985; Thongkum 1988b), one of several phonetic correlates of the phonological register contrast found in many Mon-Khmer languages.

The advent of digital technology into the Buddhist education brought it into new territory with opportunities for Buddhists, both esoteric and exoteric followers, scholars, students, and practitioners. There is a requirement for Buddhists to link innovative technologies into their education systems to keep pace with modern methods. Buddhist education will remain ineffective without reformulating some substantial modifications to educate the young generation with Buddhist wisdom and values. Here in this workshop, I will try to discuss an Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint and Some handy tools for students: A basic guideline from researcher to researcher.
There will be 47 slides that are divided into two sections. The first section is an introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint which has 28 slides and the second section is about some handy tools for the student. Finally, I come to the conclusion and reading the bibliography. I have quoted that Nokia CEO ended his speech saying: “we didn’t do anything wrong but somehow, we lost”. [Published on May 9, 2016]
Influentially, mainstream technology is impacting Buddhist education in the digital age in both positive and negative manners. The presentation will cover online resources available for Buddhists to use for their research and practice as far as possible. Usage of technology such as visual acid, audiovisual material, and PowerPoint brings such classes to become more interesting and creates a more interactive learning. The digitization of various editions of Buddhist texts has expanded the scope of researchers. Yet, students and scholars are still not properly taking advantage of these digital resources. It is advisable to offer more preparatory classes to students so that they can utilize these handy resources.
In the 21st century, a majority of Buddhist canon written in Pāli, Chinese, Tibetan, Sanskrit and other languages have been digitized, most of which are freely made available in both CD Rom and Internet for public use. This digitization of Buddhist texts is said to have begun in the late 1980s (Lancaster 2003, p. 79-86).
In summary, innovative technology has certainly made easier to enhance the capabilities of learners. It has helped develop the study of Buddhism in a great way. Buddhist academics should utilize digital tools to promote their scholarly works mindfully.

This book is about "History of Wa" ethnic in Myanmar published by Wa literature, history, and cultural committee in 2010. No part of this publication may be reproduced, translated, stored in a retrieval system, or transmitted in any form or by any means, electronic, mechanical, photocopying, recording, or otherwise without prior written permission from the publisher.
The book has 51 pages with Lanna script published by Sai Murng Temple where it is located in Tachileik of Myanmar. It is mostly the Pali functional, devotional, and chanting verses with some translation into the local language as practiced therein. Such a handbook is recommended for almost every chief incumbent at local temples.
The thesis presents the grammatical structures of Wa using traditional linguistic terms. Wa is a language spoken in South East Asia. Its language classification falls under the Mon-Khmer sub-group of the Austro-Asiatic language family. This research is based on the Yaong Soi dialect of Wa which is regarded as the main dialect of the Wa Bible translation. A set of elicitated grammar sentences, three narratives, and personal intuition were used as data sources in this study.
The description covers several topics. It includes a general description of word classes, phrases, verbal operators, and clause structures. Noun phrase structure, tense, aspect, and modality particles were also investigated. Typologically, Wa is a head-initial language. This means objects follow the verbs and modifiers (adjectives, relative clauses, and numbers) follow the noun. There is no subject and object marking—they can be predicted by their positions. The negation in Wa is pre-verbal.
Interesting findings include: some adverbs in other languages are verbs in Wa, some of the constituents can be moved out of noun phrases, negation often involves a secondary negation particle, and Wa has two alternative clause word orders – SVO and VSO. The word order alternation is not predicted by semantics or transitivity of the verb. The analysis shows that the word order in Wa seems to vary according to the clause types.
