Hoezo in KINO

Perhaps one of the most famous titles in the Czechoslovak New Wave is Closely Watched Trains. A seemingly straightforward tale of a young train conductor hellbent on losing his virginity while around him the Nazi occupation and subsequent resistance plays out. Our bumbling protagonist walks a fine line between innocence and ignorance in a humanistic, subtle tale that demands your attention to catch its message. Something The Academy surely picked up on, as this bagged the second Foreign Language Oscar in a row for Czechoslovakia after The Shop on Main Street. Czech Language with English subtitles.
