Recurrence relations for joint moments of nonadjacent GOS (ordinary order statistics (OOS) and k-upper records (k-RVs) as special cases) are obtained. Single and product moment generating functions (moments) of nonadjacent GOS are derived. Doubly truncated new modified Weibull (Weibull, Extreme-value, exponential and Rayleigh), three Burr type XII (Lomax) and inverse Weibull distributions, among others, arise as special cases of this doubly truncated class. Two applications are introduced, the first is the characterizations for members of the class based on recurrence relations for moments of GOS, OOS and k-RVs. As the second application we found Tables of single and product moments of OOS from doubly truncated Lomax distribution.

Technologies are now everywhere in the firm's value chain. Thus, it is necessary for firms to adapt their strategic process as technology is pervasively important as part of business function. This implies the need to study a technology strategy that link technology with business objective. In this paper, the researchers will review a structured approach to business and technology strategy. The process includes study a framework that serve as a guidance to organizations enabling them to analyse the technology needs for a business. Therefore, managers must be aware of the strategic importance of technology in delivering value and competitive advantage to their companies. Among the awareness are deciding which technologies support the strategic objectives, identifying companies strengths and weaknesses, establishing technology priorities, and finally deciding strategic actions.

Design/methodology/approach ‐ The authors employ an advanced panel threshold regression estimation developed in 1999 by Hansen that will indicate whether there are positive and negative impacts of leverage on firm value. This estimation procedure has the advantage of quantifying the threshold level of debt as compared to the ad hoc classification procedure of splitting the sample. Findings ‐ The results show that debt is only pertinent to the firm value up to a threshold level of 64.33 per cent. Additional debt beyond the threshold level does not add to a firm's value. The appropriate level of debt should be applied, which would thus maximize the firm and stockholders' value. Originality/value ‐ To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first study to look at this issue for Malaysian listed firms. The findings from this paper may provide a critical analysis of the usage of debt in firms' capital structure. An excessive level of debt could lead to a debt overhang situation and insolvency at the microeconomic firm level; this could eventually could cause vulnerability in financial systems and thus lead to the financial catastrophes.

The empirical findings reveal that the fiscal position and stock of external indebtedness have a huge impact on a country’s decision to hold international reserves. In addition, the results also find that Indonesia, a country with the highest risk in terms of economic and financial sectors, has taken corrective measures to deal with any sudden shocks.

This became even more pronounced during proposal presentation, result presentation and the presentation of the final year projects. As a remedial step, GIS skills was introduced and made compulsory to all students. The overall goal of this initiative is to blend the skills into their academic and field training, preparing them for a more meaningful exploration into the environment, both during their academic years and beyond. We present here how the problem was identified and the levels of skills that are introduce to solve the problem.

The theory expounds the main concept of information asymmetry and goal conflict in the relationship. In this paper these two concepts are used to explain efforts undertaken by the Malaysian Federal Government to improve the quality of higher education and their struggle to reform the funding system in public universities. This move is parallel to the implementation of National Higher Education Strategic Plan Beyond 2020 which was announced in 2007. Interestingly, this study found that public universities in Malaysia are working positively towards materialising the government objectives regardless of the government funding cuts. Indeed, the government initiative to keep track of the universities performances by using the monitoring, controlling and incentives mechanisms have helped reduce the agency problems in the government-university relationship.

In addition, the association between this relationship and the political risk condition is further analysed for selected emerging economies. By using panels of 20 emerging countries, the empirical results show that the decision by the emerging economies to hold international reserves is largely dependent on the fluctuations in the financial risk indicators. In addition, the interdependency between the demand reserves function and the type of financial risk indicator also varies across countries' political conditions.
