The study utilized the panel regression method of analysis to measure the impact on the capital s... more The study utilized the panel regression method of analysis to measure the impact on the capital structure on the performance of 18 insurance companies in Nigeria by collecting data on the capital structure (Equity and Debt ratio) as well as on a controlled variable, Gearing Ratio between 2010 and 2014, a period of five years. The Hausman test was used to determine the appropriate model between Fixed and Random model, which are the two main methods that are appropriate for analysing panel data. The test affirmed the appropriateness of the Fixed Effect Model. The finding shows that capital structure has a negative and statistically significant impact on the performance of the industry. This is because; each of the components of capital structure (DR and EQTY) is negative and significant since the respective p-values are less than the normal critical value of 5% (0.05). The gearing ratio, which was a control variable is, however, insignificant as the p-value is greater than the critical value.
