Fishing With Carter

On Fridays a lot of new campers and RVs pull in for the weekend.

A new family set up camp just three spots down from ours. While the young parents were hooking everything up, their young boy hopped on his bicycle. He rode right up to our picnic table and said, “Hi, my name is Carter. What’s yours?”

Rich introduced us as Rich and Julie.

Carter said, “I’m four. How old are you?”

Rich told him he was 62. And I told him I just had a birthday and was 60 now.

“Wow! That’s old. Well, okay. Bye.” And off he went.

Rich and I both smiled and laughed.

Later on, Carter walked by holding his mom’s hand. He hollered,

“Hi, Rich and Julie. This is my mom.”

She said hello and profusely apologized for Carter being so forward.

“He is no problem at all,” Rich said. “We like kids.”

Off they went and Rich got out the plastic tub where I keep copies of my published children’s books. He is so proud of them. Even more so than me.

Everywhere we go Rich gives all the kids a book. And sometimes he gives them more than one. Carter got four books the…
